Medical English

A specialist course for doctors, nurses, clinical officers and pharmacists who consult with international patients, work in multi-cultural teams, or are preparing for OET, USMLE or PLAB. Covers history-taking, explaining diagnoses, breaking difficult news, clinical documentation, and the soft skills that matter most in healthcare.

1. Course Description

Medical English is a specialist course for doctors, nurses, clinical officers, pharmacists, and allied health professionals who consult with international patients, work in multi-cultural health teams, or are preparing for licensing exams (OET, USMLE, PLAB) in English-speaking countries.

We cover the full range of clinical communication: history-taking, explanations of diagnoses and procedures, breaking difficult news, written documentation (discharge summaries, referrals, case notes), and professional communication with colleagues at handover or on multidisciplinary rounds.

Lessons combine medical vocabulary with the soft skills that matter most in healthcare: empathy, clarity, and patient-centred language. Every learner leaves with a portfolio of practised consultations, written documents, and the confidence to communicate safely and warmly under clinical pressure.

2. Key Highlights
  • Medical Vocabulary — Specialty-relevant vocabulary across major systems (cardio, respiratory, GI, endocrine, paediatrics) plus everyday clinical idioms.
  • Patient Communication — History-taking, explaining diagnoses in plain English, informed consent conversations, and breaking bad news with empathy.
  • Professional Documentation — Writing clear discharge summaries, referral letters, and SOAP notes that meet international clinical standards.
  • Clinical Presentations — Presenting cases at ward rounds, handovers, and MDT meetings — concise, structured, and easy to follow.
  • Healthcare Conversations — Talking with colleagues, families, and administrative staff — the full ecosystem of communication around patient care.
3. Who Is It For

Doctors, nurses, clinical officers, pharmacists, and other health professionals working with international patients or preparing for OET/USMLE/PLAB.
